Gloria De Dapitan
One of the tourist attractions which Dapitan is really proud of is its 3 hectare commercial center,Gloria de Dapitan, which lies in the heart of Sunset Boulevard where most of the hotels and inns are located. Aside from Rizal Shrine, the historical landmark, and Dakak, a world-class Park and Beach Resort, Gloria De Dapitan housed a wide variety of establishments including the first theme park in the south of the Philippines, Gloria Fantasyland, comparable to Enchanted Kingdom and Disneyland[...]

Rizal Landing Site
Rizal Landing Site is one of the latest developed monuments in honor of the Philippines’ National Hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal. Rizal Landing Site is situated in Sta. Cruz beach where Jose Rizal landed at 7:00 pm on July 17, 1892 to begin his expatriation life in Dapitan. Together with Captain Delgras and three artillery men, they walked through Sta. Cruz Street with a “farol de combate” or lantern going to the Casa Real. He was submitted to Don Ricardo Carnicero, a Spanish Military governor of Dapitan during that time. Later on his exile, Rizal made the Relief Map of                           Mindanao and the City Plaza Square[...]


Rizal Shrine
One of the major tourist destination of the Philippines which is also a historical landmark is the Rizal Shrine in Dapitan City. It is situated in a 16 hectare estate in Barangay Talisay which Dr. Jose P. Rizal purchased during his exile in the Dapitan in July 17, 1892 to July 31, 1896. Rizal Shrine approximately 2 kilometers North West from Dapitan City Plaza where Casa Real, Relief Map of Mindanao, St. James Church and Parochial School are near. History [...]





















Dapitan City Plaza


(“Liwasan ng Dapitan”) also known as the City Square is the plaza which Dr. Jose P. Rizal beautified and developed during his exile. With the assistance of Spanish Politico-Military Governor of Dapitan, Gov. Ricardo Carnicero, Rizal made the Dapitan City Plaza comparable to the ones he saw in Europe.
Dapitan City Plaza has an estimated land area of 1 hectare and it is laid out in the tradition rectilinear Spanish colonial manner. The plaza already existed when Dr. Jose P. Rizal arrived in Dapitan on July 17, 1892. Oil lamps were hung on tress and cut tree trunks were placed around the plaza as part of Carnicero’s project. Rizal planted white santans, red gumamelas and acacia trees.
Before Dr. Jose P. Rizal became the Philippines‘ national hero, the kiosk was in the middle area of the plaza. The kiosk was moved to the northwest side to give way to the monument in honor of Rizal. The Dapitan City Plaza has maintained its original design except for its elevated border which was constructed in 1996 [...]

Rizal Landing Site


Rizal Landing Site is one of the latest developed monuments in honor of the Philippines’ National Hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal. Rizal Landing Site is situated in Sta. Cruz beach where Jose Rizal landed at 7:00 pm on July 17, 1892 to begin his expatriation life in Dapitan. Together with Captain Delgras and three artillery men, they walked through Sta. Cruz Street with a “farol de combate” or lantern going to the Casa Real. He was submitted to Don Ricardo Carnicero, a Spanish Military governor of Dapitan during that time. Later on his exile, Rizal made the Relief Map of Mindanao and the City Plaza Square. He attended Sunday Mass at the nearby St. James Church during his stay.
The Rizal Landing Site is visible when you’re in any part of Sta. Cruz Beach in Sunset Boulevard. Because of its bright lights, it becomes eye-catching at night. A big cross stands in the middle of the perpendicular road fronting the monument. The Rizal Landing Site is a conventional 15 minutes walk from Gloria Fantasyland.

In the middle of Gloria de Dapitan is the Gallera de Dapitan, a deluxe cockpit which is sometimes used for boxing matches, live shows, competitions and other entertainments that draw crowds. The Gallera de Dapitan is designed by Fernando Mirasol. A bowling center named Exodus Bowledrome is available inside Gloria de Dapitan. It is the first of its kind in northwestern Mindanao comparable to bowling lanes in Manila, Cebu and Cagayan de Oro. It has 8 lanes and setting of pins is computer-aided. Those who want to trim down their weight or just want to stay healthy, Powerhouse Gym is also available. It is by far the biggest gym in Zamboanga peninsula. One can enjoy boxing, aerobics, taebo, and belly dancing too. Gym instructors are available who can assist and suggest programs for you to follow.
